Arthur Owsley – Featured Artist

the madman
I’m entering the
using synthetics and a roll of tape
children play in the distance with self-operated
gadgets I’d never heard of or thought possible
I might have taken
heavy hallucinogen. I might be dreaming.
death is a roman numeral. a bird skeleton. a bird number.
a number in the clouds, though night is upon us.
I may enter this futurism, this dynamo, this empire in the sun,
and there is a possibility I may never return.
perhaps I will bring this animal head along on my journey
as a relic, to remind me of the great world left behind.
well, I suppose it was almost great. it had the right tools, just missed a beat
withstanding the scorched wave of demise.
perhaps these new sentients will reimburse my travel
with a destination that deems a foreigner worthy to shine upon.
I am dreaming and the stars are near and surreal and
my world is filled with blood and ink and shadows.
this skull, I will take with me into this unknown city and beneath it,
we will bury the empire that outshone its submerging descent.
hello, new world. hello.

Arthur Owsley
(via https://www.owsleycreations.com)
Arthur is a painter, sculptor, muralist, graphic designer, illustrator, and host of The Arty Owl Show podcast. The current style of his artwork manifested from art history classes that he took in college. The timelessness of ancient and cultural art stuck with him and the way in which he makes his own art. Different cultural and ancient styles permeate his work as he imagines what future civilizations will think of his religious and societal systems based on his work. Within each piece Owsley makes has deep-seated references to ancient mythologies, imagery, and characters from a plethora of different ancient civilizations. In this way, he expresses the religion of his work.
