snow-covered mountain
i am trapped between thick
globs of paint
and a wilderness
that hides my angelic
glacial horns under a surface
of twilight and blackness.
this darkness resides
as not only a monumental
prince but a sacred
refuge in a life
of demanding
uncertainty.
it knows these thoughts
of mine,
and queerly, thinks
as i.
is it the i in wild
or the wild in i—
bury me in
snow-covered thoughts
and meditative tissue.
this secret is profoundly
dead in the blackness
of earths thrall
and the screamless tyranny
that curves and heckles
along the brink of
nature’s ninety-nine
mile wrath.
i am a journeyman,
alone to my scenic trails.
i find peace in this solitude,
behind my ventilated walls
and stone glass empires,
and through these statues of god
where creativity first begins
and sentiments of the displaced
are forever cleansed.

Conrad Jon Godly

(via www.conradjgodly.com)
Conrad Jon Godly is a contemporary Swiss painter and commercial photographer. Throughout his painting practice, Godly exclusively renders mountains with distinctly thick, heavy impasto marks made using a wide brush in a cool, restrictive color scheme. Interested in spatial projection and light interacting with form, his canvases range in scale from minuscule to massive. He was born in 1962 in Davos, Switzerland, and went on to study painting at the Basel School of Art from 1982 to 1986. Godly gained commercial success as a professional photographer during an 18-year hiatus from painting, after which he moved to the mountains of Chur, Switzerland, in 2006, where he currently lives and works. His work has been notably exhibited by Gallery Luciano Fasciati and Tony Wuethruch Gallery.
