Erik Minter – Featured Artist

globs
globule energy
molten
flaming in hieroglyph
and neon rings that pull like
engorged composite storming
out from other planetary
volcanic eruption
eyes spinning tirelessly
like wheels in thought in-and-out of
dream worlds. a barricade
of cinder and smoke released
at the crown has enraged
the entity of the spirit world—
the enthralling cicatrix.
i hold my hand to my heart
to know it is i i still feel
and that my body hasn’t yet been
invaded by everything else
as it surely will, sooner
than later
i’ve stopped conceptualizing life
in its material form, the
immaterial floating through
space compression like
translucent tubes filled
with forward vacuums
ejaculating gelatinous vehicle
the twirls of paint on the
wall have oozed from my hands
like a freshly bruised fire
spurting madness and ecstasy
you.
throughout lives and upon
exiting your beliefs of color
and universe, perplexity
and shadow. all you know is
all
too. will you join me,
once again,
in the creation of eternity?

Erik Minter

New Jersey-based artist Erik Minter makes paintings that bridge abstraction into a surreal figuration. With a long career working in commercial design, it was natural for him to draw and paint digitally from the start, manipulating photographs from his physical painting swatches into his digital originals where colors push saturation. Today, Minter returns to painting and the physical surface, allowing him to express emotion and what he is most curious about. It’s more immediate; the outcomes are filled with surprise. I treat my work as if I’m building out a storyboard, channeling the metaphysical through past, present, and future experiences.
Erik Minter lives and works in New Jersey. Minter received a BFA from The Pratt Institute on a Presidential Scholarship and was a National Talent Search Winner. In addition, he was the recipient of the Pratt Institute Circle Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement, the school’s highest honor. After college, Erik went on a fascinating creative journey that landed him many unique opportunities, creating murals and sculptures for many different artists, including Matthew Barney and his Cremaster 3 film, designing award-winning packaging in the skincare industry, to creating visual merchandise design for large national retailers. During this period, he’s had spurts of showing his art in group shows, being featured in boutique hotels as well as public and private collections.
