Aveen Toma – Featured Artist

tears
numinous fire
igniting a
threatening tone
in the soul
the heart screams
though the screams
go unheard
trapped in a trepidatious
silence
like blackness
but not that
from night
that from things
dark
shuttered from
the inside
dampened by light
boarded windows
in thick
smoky glass
like chalk from
campfire ash
the soul remembers
as do its fragments
of spiritual geometry
like stained-glass
asylums
making that which
thinks and that
which hungers
feed upon one another
like childhood friends
falling out
of rhythm by time’s
waning void
helpless
in need of light
in need of god’s
in need of something
earth has provided
but has hidden
like rope stretched
through the sky
into a crystal
vortex
the spider weaves
his nest and sets
his catch
upon the wraith
of his paragon

Aveen Toma

Alongside her growth in art, Aveen was also learning and understanding more about the Catholic faith she was brought up in. Throughout the years, she fell in love with the richness of the Faith and how much freedom, peace, and joy it brought in her own life. As she began pursuing art, she desired to bring her art and Catholic faith together in a way she had not seen elsewhere and so be able to present Christianity through a new perspective.
In addition to painting and drawing, Aveen loves hand lettering, card making, and other crafts. She also enjoys playing piano, ice skating, and creating travel video diaries. But above all, she loves deepening her knowledge of the Catholic faith-not only for her own sake but so that she can better illustrate the beauty and wholeness of Christianity in her art. In this way, she becomes more capable of translating the invisible and conceptual into a conceivable reality in approachable, unprecedented, and exciting ways.
Aveen currently resides in Scottsdale, Arizona, and is completing her Bachelor’s degrees in Fine Arts and Theology.
