Quarterly Poet Residency

Gen Society is a seasonal residency that publishes and features one poet per quarter.

Each season, one selected poet publishes a short series of ekphrastic poems during their residency term, receiving formal publishing credits under Gen Society. The program is structured to provide sustained visibility and professional documentation rather than a single isolated publication. Each residency concludes with a public workshop and reading, giving resident poets the opportunity to discuss their work and engage directly with the community.

What the Residency Includes

• Publication of 6 original ekphrastic poems over a 3-month period (one poem published every two weeks)
• Dedicated feature page in the Poet-in-Residence section of Gen Society, including professional author bio and headshot
• Social media promotion of your words scattered across the Gen Society platforms
• Archival permanence on the Gen Society website
• 6 publishing credits meeting Poets & Writers’ eligibility requirements to be listed as a Poet in their directory

This is a curated residency, not a one-off acceptance.

Submission Windows

Open submissions are divided into four seasonal windows:

SPRING — March 25 – April 01, 2027

SUMMER — May 27 – June 03, 2027

FALL — August 29 – September 05, 2027

WINTER — January 20 – January 27, 2028

Each window corresponds to a future seasonal residency approximately six months in advance. Exact dates are announced in the following season. Submissions outside the open window deadline will not be read.

Eligibility

• Open to poets writing in any language; English translation required
• Previously unpublished poems only, including social media; we retain First Serial Rights
• Simultaneous submissions allowed, but notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere
• AI collaborations are permitted; however, submissions must reflect clear authorial control and original poetic intent
• There are no formal education requirements.

What We Look For

We seek work that demonstrates command of language and structure, engages image, metaphor, and symbol with intention, and presents a distinct, disciplined voice. Gen Society values depth and precision over trend. Work that relies on slogan, provocation, or ideology without formal rigor will not be competitive. Selection is subjective; rejection is not an indictment. It is part of the discipline of the arts.

Submission Guidelines

During the open submission window:

• Write 3 poems inspired by the FEATURED ART PROMPT (artwork) at the top of the page (6 pages max)
• Include your cover letter with a short bio in your submission (150 words max)
• Include your name & email Address in your submission header
• Submit all 3 poems in a single PDF or docx, each beginning on a new page

Further details on submissions will be posted when the window opens. All submitters will be notified within 90 days of their submission.

Compensation

The resident poet receives an honorarium of $25 per published poem and $200 for their culmination workshop, totaling $350 for the season.
